I did not make this map. I want to make that clear for everyone. But I found this while stumbling and it didn't have that attention. I think this deserves lot's of attention, I can't remember there names (if you know who tell me and I'll put it in here) but they made a model of the surface of earth on the scale of 1 block = 1 square mile. It's pretty amazing.

the easiest way to download this is to use the craftbukkit server to convert it then transfer to .minecraft save file

Here's an idea for you:
Add torches to populated\civilized\industrialized areas so that in night mode you can see where people would have lights on.

I am making a MAJOR MEGA BUILD! It is CURRENTLY ALREADY ALMOST 2x BIGGER in Map MB size! Almost 650MB IT WILL BE MANY MILES BIGGER then the ENTIRE SURFACE LENGTH OF THE EARTH! <<---->> ....and the BEST PART is that it is ALREADY CONVERTED TO ANVIL! ...after 6 1/2 hours of waiting... -_- lol It is remarkably NOT LAGGY! Im even running Water Shader running 4x anti with 30 FPS!!!, on a crappy laptop!!! :D Still got few hundred miles of, you can say... walking..rarely flying,.. also the ENTIRE MAP WAS VANNILA MC GENERATED!, as I don't want to release the full details of the project, till its done in a few months! :D IT IS, AND WILL BE!!! THE BIGGEST MAP EVER MADE IN MINECRAFT!!!!

I dont think this is a project of the Earth since there is no chance to look at it from a great distance. Unless in creative mode... But c'mon, why in that case they using old NASA image instead of Minecraft's generated one? :)
Just 10 minutes ago my server was finally ready converting, but it was 100% worth it! This map is genious:P Its so huge! It has just two minor flaws: first: the Netherlands are quite unrealistic...(I mean, common!) and the oceans/seas go from 1 mile deep to 20 miles deep in just one block:P
