I've been working on this one map since early alpha. Its also the setting for a novel I work on intermittently. I let myself be obsesivly perfectionist about this so its nowhere near as complete as it would be (I tear things down and redo them for slight improvements)
I started out with the intention of creating a 1-1 scale model of a castle I designed for a book. Soon, due to a number of factors such as the mechanics for how light propagates, and the fact that I can't make a spring of water magically shoot up through the center of my keep, my minecraft Legionholm (that's the name of the fortress) was forced to go it's own design route.
I've looked over lots of castle/palace/fortress screenshot threads and couldn't help but notice that a lot of the castles were clearly scaled with the knowledge only one or maybe 2-3 people would ever be around the structure; also they don’t seem to have been planned with any functional concerns at all (a lot of MC castles/fortresses have battlements but no way to reach them without flight or nerd-poling).
I am trying to build a fortress that serves as the headquarters, home, and sole territorial possession for an organization of (under ideal circumstances) 5,600 dudes/dudettes and has the facilities, size and arrangement to actually accommodate that many people/said purpose while still capable of being defended by far fewer.
To that end I try really hard to furnish interiors so they actually look like are a functional smithy, or kitchen, or barrack, or personal quarters which is by far the hardest part and the part that most 'crafters seem to care the least about which breaks my heart into a million teeny tiny little pieces. (I am getting a lot better though, my kitchens are obviously kitchens, my smithies are obviously smithies, and my administrative and logistics offices are obviously something office-y
Privy (plumbed and everything because its much harder to fight when you have cholera)
Fortified Gatehouses for miles
Fancy Conference Room
Several more functional conference rooms
Batery (like a ravenry but for bats)
Nature-y magical-y shrine
Map and chart room
Wolfery (its like a ravenry but for attack wolves. Alright its nothing like a ravenry)
Lots of cool things that are under construction/I-can't-figure-out-how-to-make-this-look-right
